Barbara Stephenson fell for BAP in the basement pub of the American Embassy in London where she found herself answering edgy questions in an extraordinarily perceptive interview. A thirty-year veteran of the American Foreign Service, she has served as U.S. Ambassador to Panama, Consul General in Belfast, and as a political officer working on peace in El Salvador and on eliminating weapons of mass destruction in South Africa. She holds a Ph.D. in English literature and served as United Kingdom desk officer in the State Department. As president of the American Foreign Service Association, she represents 16,500 members of America’s career diplomatic service.
