Claire is passionate about the transition to a decarbonised, decentralised energy system through embracing innovation and disruptive technologies, and promoting the growth of diversity and inclusion in the energy sector. She joined the National Grid Group in 2002 and is currently Head of UK Strategy after spending time as a policy expert, a senior leader in operations and heading up large scale transformation projects during her career. Highlights include playing an instrumental part in the UK's first 'no coal day', agreeing critical national contracts optimising the c.£1bn cost of operating the GB electricity system and undertaking a significant restructure of a subsidiary, taking it from loss to profit in three months. Claire is named on the @rise_utils list of the top 25 influencers in the energy industry and she also sits on the Advisory Board for the Oxford University-run UK Centre for Research on Energy Demand. She lives in the Midlands with her daughter and enjoys clay pigeon shooting in her spare time.
